Being named the MVP of the NFL regular season is an extremely impressive honor, but if you ask any player in the league, they’d likely tell you that becoming Super Bowl MVP is a whole other level of prestige. With the postseason now underway, one sportsbook has released odds on which player will be crowned MVP of Super Bowl 54.
BetOnline has Lamar Jackson as the +250 favorite, with Patrick Mahomes (+400), Jimmy Garoppolo (+700), Aaron Rodgers (+1200), George Kittle (+1600), Russell Wilson (+1600), Aaron Jones (+2000), Dalvin Cook (+2000), Derrick Henry (+2500) and Tyreek Hill (+2500) in the top 10. Jackson is the runaway front-runner to win the 2019 regular-season NFL MVP Award.
The Super Bowl is the biggest sporting event in North America, so there’s never any shortage of betting opportunities available for the big game.
Wild-Card Upsets Have Shaken Up the List
With the New England Patriots and New Orleans Saints getting knocked out on Wild Card Weekend with losses to the Tennessee Titans and Minnesota Vikings, respectively, a number of high-profile star players will be watching the remaining games from their couches. That’s caused names like Ryan Tannehill, Derrick Henry, Kirk Cousins and Dalvin Cook to move up the oddsboard since last week.
Tannehill (+8000 to +6600) and Henry (+6000 to +2500) will have their hands full against the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday, though, so tread carefully when backing them prior to the divisional round. Cousins (+6000 to +3300) stepped up and made some big throws late in Minnesota’s 26-20 victory over the Saints, while Cook (+6000 to +2000) was easily the MVP for the Vikings in that contest.
Super Bowl MVP Has Belonged to QBs
Last year, Julian Edelman became the seventh wideout to win the Super Bowl MVP Award. Quarterbacks have won the trophy 29 times, compared to seven times for running backs, four times for linebackers, and two times each for defensive ends and safeties. A cornerback, a defensive tackle and a kick returner have each won the award once. Since Super Bowl 34 in 2000, quarterbacks have been the MVP 12 times.
