Tony Bennett’s squad comes into the week ranked No. 1 in the latest KenPom rankings and No. 1 in the latest AP Top-25 Polls after Duke lost last week. ESPN Bracketologist Joe Lunardi has the Cavaliers pegged as a No.1-seed in his latest NCAA Tournament projections as well. Virginia has scored 121.8 points per 100 possessions for the season (4th in the NCAA) and a conference-best 114.5 points per 100 possessions during ACC play (1st in the ACC). The Cavaliers sport an effective field goal percentage of 55.6 percent during league play (1st in the ACC) and they have turned the ball over on 15.8 percent of their offensive possessions (2nd in the ACC). While they don’t shoot a lot of 3-pointers, Virginia has connected on an ACC-best 40.8 percent of their 3-point attempts during the conference season (1st in the ACC).
The road team has covered the spread in five of the last six meetings in this series. Virginia isn’t a team that crashes the offensive glass at a high rate, but they could really hurt the Orange from deep. Syracuse has struggled to score during the conference season and they’ve lost four of their last seven games.
