The Rams opened as 2.5-point road favorites, but after getting torched by Jameis Winston and the Buccaneers, Los Angeles is now a 1-point road dog at Seattle. The Seahawks moneyline opened at +106 and the point total at 48 before a tick up to 49.
Los Angeles is 3-1 straight up and against the spread following its 55-40 home loss to Tampa Bay. It hasn’t been pretty, but the Seahawks are 3-1 SU and 2-2 ATS after beating up the Cardinals 28-10.
The Rams are 9-1 SU and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games against the NFC West and have covered in four of their past five NFC West road contests. The Seahawks are just 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games against NFC West foes with the OVER hitting in five consecutive games.
Los Angeles News & Notes
Through four games, this is what we know about the 2019 Los Angeles Rams. Their defense allowed 27 points to an anemic Cam Newton-led offense, beat Teddy Bridgewater’s Saints 27-9, were held to 20 points by an injury-riddled Browns defense and allowed Jameis Winston to toast their secondary for 385 yards and four touchdowns. Oh, and Todd Gurley “the running back” is still missing in action.
Jared Goff attempted an insane 68 passes against the Buccaneers, while the entire running back corps finished with 11 carries.
“It’s not about conserving, it’s about winning right now,” head coach Sean McVay told reporters after the game regarding Gurley’s five carries. Gurley reminded the media that Thursday night games are “the dumbest things ever,” which while he may be right, doesn’t bode well for his short-week preparation.
There just isn’t any balance within the Rams offense right now, which when you consider the Seahawks’ defensive weakness, perhaps a heavy pass game will come in handy again on the short week.
For those who like to handicap matchups based on average yards per play, would you believe the Rams actually trail the Seahawks through four weeks? Los Angeles averages 5.7 YPP to Seattle’s 5.9.
On the injury front, Marcus Peters is in the league’s concussion protocol after taking a shot at the tail end of his pick-six. It would be surprising if he was cleared by Thursday. Safety Taylor Rapp left the last game with an ankle injury and his status is questionable. So, an already weak secondary loses some depth ahead of an important NFC West matchup.
Seattle News & Notes
For the third consecutive week, Seattle scored 27 or more points as running back Chris Carson posted his first 100-yard game and first without a lost fumble this season. The running game that worked so well for the Seahawks last season sits in the middle of the league rankings with Russell Wilson accounting for nearly 20 percent of the production.
Not only that, but the Seahawks quarterback is completing a league-best 72.9 percent of his passes for 285 yards per game, has eight touchdowns and has yet to throw an interception. With the way Winston looked against the Rams secondary, Wilson has to love the short-week matchup on his own turf.
Granted, it’s hard to glean too much useful data from holding the rebuilding Arizona Cardinals to 10 points, but just remember when looking back at the Seahawks’ last home game against the Saints, the New Orleans defense and special teams spotted Bridgewater 14 points thanks to punt return and fumble recovery touchdowns. So, of the 33 points scored, the Seahawks defense only allowed 19 and held New Orleans to 265 total yards and 5.3 yards per play.
