Archived: Rams-Seahawks Kicks off NFL Week 5

October 3, 2019

NFL WEEK 5 –

RAMS-SEAHAWKS SQUARE OFF

IN KEY NFC WEST SHOWDOWN …

BASEBALL’S DIVISIONAL PLAYOFF SERIES

GET REVVED UP WITH A PAIR OF NL GAMES

There have been 10 different NFC teams to have played in the last 11 Super Bowls while dating back to the 2008 season … that’s Arizona, New Orleans, Green Bay, New York Giants, San Francisco, Seattle (twice), Carolina, Atlanta, Philadelphia and the Los Angeles Rams.

Amazing, really.

Well, the NFC teams that have participated in half of the last six Super Bowls have at it this evening in the great northwest as Rams-Seahawks is your proverbial toss up. Consider the Rams opened as 2-point betting favorites but, at last check the Seahawks were laying a point.

And know this …

The Rams won their first eight games last season before finally suffering a SU (straight-up) loss – their first “L” was put on ‘em this time in Week 4 with last Sunday’s humbling 55-40 home loss against Tampa Bay; meanwhile, the Seahawks have started off 3-1 SU only twice in the past decade but Pete Carroll’s crew rolls into this evening’s game shooting to go 4-1 SU for the first time since 2013.

Something’s gotta give, right?

In Thursday Night Football, it’s …

LOS ANGELES RAMS (3-1) at SEATTLE (3-1)
– 8:20 p.m. ET, Fox / NFL Network

Tell us right this minute whether Rams’ QB Jared Goff is gonna have to chuck it another 68 times – say what! –and we’ll tell you that Sean McVay’s team is gonna go down to defeat once again. No question that LA was thoroughly embarrassed in that game against the TB Bucs last week and we’re wondering if RB Todd Gurley (just 5 carries for 16 yards but two TDs) is ever gonna be an integral part of his team’s rushing game plan.

On the flip side, Seattle enters this prime-time clash having won / covered both of its road games (at Pittsburgh and at Arizona) while failing to cover home games against  Cincinnati and New Orleans – if QB Russell Wilson (1,141 yards passing with 8 TDs and 0 INTs this year) gets to operate from a “clean pocket” and is able to spot up TE Will Dissly (4 TDs already) in red zone situations, then the ‘Hawks could give the Rams two losses in one week.

ATS Spread Notes – The Rams are a rock-solid 7-2 ATS (against the spread) in their last nine overall games while dating back to late last season and note also that LA’s covered 13 of its last 21 away games the past two-plus seasons and that includes road covers this year at Carolina and at Cleveland. On the flip side, Seattle is a healthy 12-5-1 versus the vig while dating back to Week 3 of the 2018 campaign plus 10 of the Seahawks’ last 13 games overall have gone “over”.

Note …

Hank Petrello and his Network of Handicappers and Bloggers banged out plenty of winners in the NFL Week 4 card and we’re ready to roar in Week 5 beginning with tonight’s showdown between the Los Angeles Rams at the Seattle Seahawks.
