If you thought the College Football Playoff committee struggled to select its teams during normal years, what is this process going to look like in a shortened 2020 season?! It appears that most conferences will attempt to play a league-only schedule this fall, trimming their regular season from 13 games to ten. With no non-conference games to look at and with less data points to analyze, finding this year’s CFP participants could be a crapshoot.

Clemson and Ohio State are currently co-favorites at +300 atop the 2021 College Football National Championship odds board at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, followed by Alabama (+500), Georgia (+800) and Oklahoma (+1400). The LSU Tigers are 40-to-1 to defend their title.
At the moment, the 2020-21 College Football National Championship is scheduled for Monday, January 11 from Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. House rules at the Westgate state, “College Football Championship Game must be played by 8/1/21 for action.” So there are no restrictions as far as the number of games that need to be played, or what the season’s format looks like.
The SEC has won ten out of the last 14 National Championships. Georgia bettors were left with a bad taste in their mouth after last season, but that could create some value on the Bulldogs heading into 2020. Georgia lured Alabama strength and conditioning coach Scott Cochran away from Tuscaloosa in February. Cochran had been with Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide since 2007. Georgia and Alabama kick off their SEC schedules with a battle in Tuscaloosa on September 19. Georgia will have two highly-touted quarterbacks available to lead their offense. Jamie Newman (Wake Forest) and JT Daniels (USC) have both been brought in to fix the Bulldogs’ lackluster offense. Georgia has had a top-2 recruiting class in each of the last three years, and a fourth-straight SEC East championship won’t be enough to keep the Athens faithful happy.
