Tampa Bay Downs Selections 5/13/20
Race 1 #6 TIZ SAMURAI
Race 2: #8 FEISTY CHI CHI
Race 6: #5 ESOR
Race 8: #7 FORTLITE
Tampa Bay Downs Race 1: A tricky opener with several having shown their best form on the Turf so far including Happy Wanderer and Nauti Buoy, who have yet to score on the main track. Completely Bonkers has won once on Dirt and represents the meets leading trainer but TIZ SAMURAI looks more likely to run his race on this surface. He failed to threaten the winner when runner-up over track and trip last month but his best form of 2019 gives him every chance in this company. Game Day Drama looks best of the rest.
Tampa Bay Downs Race 2: Golden Nole was beaten only a neck here last time though this looks a tougher assignment. Tornero finished behind the latter and is closely matched with previous dual winner Tale Of V K on earlier running while R Kiss Em Goodbye won easily over 5f here last month though that was an off-track race and connections will be hoping for rain. But FEISTY CHI CHI makes more appeal having shown signs of a return to form last time and this shorter trip and drop in class may see her back to her best.
Tampa Bay Downs Race 3: Nagini and Imaginary Friend drop on class having taken it in turns beating each other. The former came out best last time but went on to finish behind LITTLE MS BROADWAY when Gerald Bennett’s filly missed out by only a head over track and trip. That was her first outing on Turf and she can open her account in this with improvement expected. Stack Shack and Freret are others on the drop while Tiznoise was still beaten when second in this grade. SELECTIONS: 8-10-6-11
Tampa Bay Downs Race 4: Onward drops in class for an in-form trainer but his best attempt so far came over 7f and a recent poor effort over today’s trip leaves him with questions to answer. Mukulwitz has also been keeping better company at Gulfstream recently but a chance is taken on the less exposed FALKIRK on his reappearance. Only fifth in a much tougher maiden at Churchill Downs behind the smart South Bend on last year’s debut, Ian Wilkes’ grey gets the vote partnered by the meets leading jockey Antonio Gallardo. Branco Maria cost $385,000 and is a Candy Ride newcomer to keep an eye on. SELECTIONS: 1-2-3-8
Tampa Bay Downs Race 5: The reserve Premium Motion would have a shout if lining-up while Beachtreasuregirl has placed over track and trip but last year’s maiden win came on the main track. Wildcat Merry and Langue Liee were both successful in maiden claimers last time with the former preferred but this won’t take much winning and a chance is taken on SCOWLING RIDGE despite a wide draw. She ran well for a long way here last time and should be in the mix dropping down in class for this. SELECTIONS: 1-9-13-14
Tampa Bay Downs Race 6: Saffie Joseph’s yard has been in fine form at Gulfstream and NEWYORK GIANT should find life easier in this company judged on his best efforts at the latter track. Esor was no match for the winner when returning a losing favourite here last month but remains one to consider while King Shawn and Starship Fonzy have both been gelded since last in action with the former less exposed and making most appeal of that pair. Exclusive Donald is a Florida-bred newcomer to note. SELECTIONS: 5-2-3-4
Tampa Bay Downs Race 7: Sundrenched was nowhere near her best drawn on the rail last time and finishing behind Lady Brexit. But the former has every chance on earlier efforts while Classy Of Course scored here in March but had earlier found CLASSY LYNN too good over track and trip. The latter has been competing in better company subsequently but Kathleen O’Connell’s grey filly gets another chance back at this level. Noble Intentions has the form to figure making the line-up. SELECTIONS: 4-13-9-6
Tampa Bay Downs Race 8: Credit Cycle has finished runner-up three times in succession since winning here in March and beaten the likes of Water Patrol, Will Runaway and Weld in the process. He looks sure to be thereabouts once again despite being drawn wide along with Rosas Way, Big Yes and BUENO BUENO BUENO. But the latter makes most appeal of that group having returned to winning ways last month on only his second outing gelded and there looks more to come from Ian Wilkes’ charge.
Tampa Bay Downs Race 9: UNCORK THE BOTTLE (NAP) should have the measure of these. He’s been competing in stakes races since landing one of these events over course and distance back in January when beating the subsequent winners Valiant Virtue and Matty’s Express and Saffie Joseph’s colt can confirm superiority back at this level. Matty’s Express beat Godolphin’s Caramelito when scoring here but the latter’s stablemate Tapage will only run if this switches to the Dirt track while First Degree and Danceronthebeach are upped in class on the back of winning maiden races.
