2021 NCAAF Predictions & Preview

July 22, 2021

The 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship is scheduled to take place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana on Monday, January 10, 2022.

The College Football Playoff currently sees four schools chosen by a committee of 13 members. Although the current format only allows four schools in the playoffs, there is discussion to expand the postseason in coming years.

Although four schools make the playoffs, there are plenty of other preseason markets to bet on for individual schools. Bettors can wager on whether a school will win its conference, or division. In the case of the Big 12, who doesn’t have divisions, bettors can wager on which schools will reach the championship game instead.

Win totals are also available for schools, with totals ranging anywhere from Kansas at 1.5 to Alabama at 10.5. Many schools have early Heisman contenders that bettors can consider as well. Check out each school preview below and get ready to wager on the upcoming college football season!

ACC

It’s no secret that the Clemson Tigers are poised for another run at the National Championship this season, so any team in the ACC should watch out. Miami-Florida will look to try and dethrone the Tigers with a returning Heisman contending quarterback. Pittsburgh is showing promise as a top dark horse in the conference, while it should be noted that Notre Dame will not be playing in the ACC this year but still facing ACC schools – such as Georgia Tech.

Boston College Eagles
Clemson Tigers
Duke Blue Devils
Florida State Seminoles
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
Louisville Cardinals
Miami Hurricanes
North Carolina Tar Heels
North Carolina State Wolfpack
Pittsburgh Panthers
Syracuse Orange
Virginia Cavaliers
Virginia Tech Hokies
Wake Forest Demon Deacons

BIG 10

The Ohio State Buckeyes were once again favorites to win this conference, although Penn State and Indiana will be looking to spoil the Buckeye fun. Indiana came close a year ago, and return Heisman contending quarterback Michael Penix, Jr. Many conference bettors are wondering when Nebraska will turn it around, but many eyes are on Minnesota and their Heisman contending playmaker in Ibrahim Mohammed.

Illinois Fighting Illini
Indiana Hoosiers
Iowa Hawkeyes
Maryland Terrapins
Michigan Wolverines
Michigan State Spartans
Minnesota Golden Gophers
Nebraska Cornhuskers
Northwestern Wildcats
Ohio State Buckeyes
Penn State Nittany Lions
Purdue Boilermakers
Rutgers Scarlet Knights
Wisconsin Badgers

BIG 12

Although the Oklahoma Sooners are preseason Big 12 favorites, along with their quarterback Spencer Rattler as the preseason Heisman favorite, they’re no lock. Iowa State is a strong contender for many, while Oklahoma State is also expected to make some noise this year. The Texas Longhorns and TCU Horned Frogs could go in either direction this year, but the Heisman focus might be on Oregon transfer Tyler Shough who will be playing for Texas Tech this season.

Baylor Bears
Iowa State Cyclones
Kansas Jayhawks
Kansas State Wildcats
Oklahoma Sooners
Oklahoma State Cowboys
TCU Horned Frogs
Texas Longhorns
Texas Tech Red Raiders
West Virginia Mountaineers

PAC-12

This conference is wide open this year, as USC and Oregon continue to go back-and-forth as favorites to win. While oddsmakers watch the seesaw market of USC and Oregon, other schools have a great chance to win the conference this season with great odds. Arizona StateWashingtonWashington StateUtah and UCLA all have Heisman contending playmakers with a solid roster to go along with them. This conference is up for grabs.

Arizona Wildcats
Arizona State Sun Devils
California Golden Bears
Colorado Buffaloes
Oregon Ducks
Oregon State Beavers
Stanford Cardinal
UCLA Bruins
USC Trojans
Utah Utes
Washington Huskies
Washington State Cougars

SEC

Can anyone dethrone the Alabama Crimson Tide? Many are high on Georgia to do it, if any team is capable. LSU may be capable, but Joe Burrow isn’t walking through the doors any time soon. Texas A&M and Florida seem to be contenders to challenge Alabama as well. Many seem to believe Auburn will have a down year, but a pair of talented quarterbacks have transferred to Tennessee which might be worth noting.

Alabama Crimson Tide
Arkansas Razorbacks
Auburn Tigers
Florida Gators
Georgia Bulldogs
Kentucky Wildcats
LSU Tigers
Mississippi State Bulldogs
Missouri Tigers
Ole Miss Rebels
South Carolina Gamecocks
Tennessee Volunteers
Texas A&M Aggies
Vanderbilt Commodores

AAC

The no-respect conference, as anyone who follows the American Athletic Conference will tell you college football is really a Power 6 sport. Regardless, this conference has seen UCF make recent runs but the rest have caught up it seems. Cincinnati is the clear favorite, as they see returning Heisman quarterback contender Desmond Ridder return.HoustonSMU and Memphis are typically consistent. However, it was Tulsa who made noise a season ago, while Navy seemingly competes in seasons you least expect it. Tulane is the sleeper however, with a potent offense that went under the radar a year ago.

Cincinnati Bearcats
ECU Pirates
Houston Cougars
Memphis Tigers
Navy Midshipmen
SMU Mustangs
Temple Owls
Tulane Green Wave
Tulsa Golden Hurricane
UCF Knights
USF Bulls

MOUNTAIN WEST

The Boise State Broncos are typically the favorites in this conference, as this year is no different. Will they win it though? Recent seasons have seen outside schools step up such as San Jose State and Utah State However, it’s Nevada that the Broncos have to worry about, with Carson Strong in the early Heisman conversation. Wyoming seems to be the experts preseason sleeper team in this conference.

Air Force Falcons
Boise State Broncos
Colorado State Rams
Fresno State Bulldogs
Hawaii Warriors
New Mexico Lobos
Nevada Wolf Pack
San Diego State Aztecs
San Jose State Spartans
UNLV Rebels
Utah State Aggies
Wyoming Cowboys

OTHERS

As noted earlier, Notre Dame is not playing an ACC-only schedule as they did in 2020. BYU was a surprise team last year, but it’s very unlikely they return to top form with their quarterback now in the NFL. Liberty is a sleeper team across all available markets, as they return a possible Heisman winning quarterback that sees a pretty simple schedule. His stats should shine, although lack of competition may that market for the Flames. Marshall seems poised to be a Conference-USA contender once again this season.

BYU Cougars
Liberty Flames
Marshall Thundering Herd
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
